(County Rates as a Percentage of the U.S. Average)
A college completion rate is the percentage of adults, 25 years and over, completing four years of college or more. The percent of the U.S. average is computed by dividing the county college completion rate by the national average and multiplying by 100. The map uses critical breaks such as the national average to organize the data into groups of common values. The Appalachian rates range from 18.1% to 205.2% of the U.S. average. The U.S. average is 20.3%. The Appalachian average is 14.2%. For a list of county data by state, see the downloadable Excel file.
