The Appalachian Regional Energy Hub Initiative is a funding opportunity for eligible applicants to:
- Conduct research regarding the economic impact of an ethane energy storage hub; or
- Support the implementation of an energy hub for natural gas and natural gas liquids, including hydrogen produced from natural gas feedstocks.
Congress directed ARC to create this initiative in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021.

Appalachia is well positioned to strengthen regional economies by investing in its energy resilience. The region has the opportunity to leverage its ample access to low-cost natural gas to produce clean hydrogen.
