The virtual event, Reforesting Mine Lands: How the Forestry Reclamation Approach Works for Coal Communities, will include an introduction the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative (ARRI), and how new investments in reforesting mine lands can create jobs, new economic opportunities, sequester carbon and reduce flooding. Attendees will learn more about the history of ARRI’s partnerships and the science behind the Forestry Reclamation Approach with speakers from Green Forests Work, the United States Forest Service, and Appalachian Voices. This successful program has worked to reforest and revegetate former mine sites since 2004. With over 10,000 acres of reforested mine lands and a science-based approach to reforestation that includes partners from state & federal agencies, non-profits, and academic institutions, ARRI has a proven track record of sustainable growth across the region.
