(County Rates as a Percentage of the U.S. Average)
A college completion rate is the percentage of persons ages 25 and over with a bachelor’s degree or more. The percent of the U.S. average is computed by dividing the county college completion rate by the national average and multiplying by 100. The map uses critical breaks such as the national average to organize the data into groups of common values.
The Appalachian rates range from 17.0% to 170.2% of the U.S. average. The U.S. average is 30.3%. The Appalachian average is 23.2%. For a list of county data by state, see the downloadable Excel file.
